This kitchen was a room in an apartment just a few minutes by foot from Masaaki-sama’s hotel, rented solely for cooking during the period of this missionary visit, where approximately 70 members of Angola took part in dedicatory work. The duties were diverse, and the members split into teams such as for cooking, dishwashing, hygiene management, and arranging ingredients and materials. Members who came from distant areas slept on the kitchen floor while serving from early morning until late at night every day. According to President Cabuço, many more members wanted to take part in this dedicatory work, but the number of people had to be limited—so many people eagerly wish to participate in the dedicatory work even though it was such a hard work. This shows the incredible passion that the members of Angola have in serving Masaaki-sama. Furthermore, thinking back, the pilgrimage groups were essentially eating the same meals as Masaaki-sama during their stay in Angola. What tremendous blessing this must have been for each member of the pilgrimage groups from Japan and around the world! When Masaaki-sama and Mami-okusama appeared in the kitchen, the surprised members became ecstatic and immediately welcomed them with song and dance. Masaaki-sama and Mami-okusama spoke in a friendly manner with the members, and when Masaaki-sama mentioned to Mami-okusama, “You wanted one of those aprons with the Church symbol that everyone is wearing, didn’t you?” and Mami-okusama replied, “Yes, that’s right!” one of the servers immediately offered the apron and chef’s hat she was wearing to Mami-okusama. Her lovely appearance drew applause and cheers. Masaaki-sama noticed that the orange hat worn by Executive Director Marcelina, who was responsible for overseeing the meals, and the earrings Mami-okusama had purchased earlier at the souvenir shop, were matching. He suggested to Mami-okusama, “Why don’t you give these earrings to Executive Director Marcelina right now?” Mami-okusama responded by putting the earrings on Executive Director Marcelina’s ears, who was so moved that she could not contain her emotions. Afterward, Masaaki-sama and Mami-okusama exchanged handshakes and hugs with each member taking part in this dedicatory work, acknowledging their hard work. The members had the brightest smiles and expressed words of gratitude one after another. After the handshakes, the Angola staff had prepared moistened hand towels for Masaaki-sama and Mami-okusama, but Masaaki-sama said, “I don’t want to wash these hands that shook everyone’s hands,” and they both declined to use the towels. The members were left speechless by the profound love of Masaaki-sama, and they appeared to be moved beyond words. Finally, when Masaaki-sama said, “I look forward to returning to Angola again next year, but I feel bad that my visit causes everyone such burden,” Mami-okusama, wearing an apron and making a gesture like a victory pose with both hands, said, “I’ll help too, so let’s all work hard together!” The members erupted in great cheers, and the kitchen became very lively. Through the visit of Masaaki-sama and Mami-okusama, the members not only had their fatigue completely cleared away, but they could barely contain their excitement at the surprise that next year, together with Mami-okusama, they would be able to prepare meals for Masaaki-sama, who is the living Meishu-sama. As I witnessed this moment, it felt as if the 2026 International Youth Conference in Angola had already begun. So as not to fall behind the efforts of the Angolan volunteers, let us, too, respond to Meishu-sama’s will that Masaaki-sama revived for us, through our daily practice of the vegan diet!
