The other day, Mami-okusama shared with us the recipe, “Mami-okusama’s aromatic mustard greens and sesame savory pancake.” When I, the reporter, actually tried making it at home, I was deeply moved by its crispiness, savory aroma, and the natural sweetness of the ingredients. Mami-okusama had mentioned that it tastes delicious even when cold, making it great for putting in bento boxes, so I shamelessly asked her, “By any chance, do you have a photo of it in a bento box?” It turned out Mami-okusama did have a photo, so we are delighted to share it with you! Everyone, my heart is soothed by looking at the adorably cute snowmen in the photo! I mean, is there anyone who wouldn’t be charmed by them? And what’s more, these three snowmen were designed based on her three children. Her eldest daughter Mei-sama is the one in the center, her second daughter Miyu-sama is the one on the right, and her son Mikoto-sama is the one on the left. Together with the Christmas-themed design, this is once again a super cute work of art! It was apparently a huge hit with the children as well, who exclaimed, “So cute!” It would be extremely challenging for us to create a bento box with the same quality as Mami-okusama’s handmade creations. However, Mami-okusama, please allow us to follow your example! We want to get closer to you, even if a little bit! Mami-okusama has again graciously shared with us a menu of the food that was in the bento box, so let me share it with you here. Please note that while the aromatic mustard greens and sesame savory pancake is delicious even when cold, it would be better to grill it in the morning and pack it in the bento box rather than using something that was grilled the night before and left overnight. 【Bento Menu】*30 percent polished rice (200g)→ Designed each snowman using boiled carrots, komatsuna (Japanese mustard spinach), wakame seaweed, and nori.*Aromatic mustard greens and sesame savory pancake→ Cut into bite-sized pieces.*Colorful glass noodle salad→ Mixed stir-fried carrots, wood ear mushrooms, glass noodles, and boiled komatsuna, adjusted the seasoning, and finished by grinding freshly toasted sesame seeds on top.*Star-shaped vegetables→ Made with baked sweet potato (baked in a clay pot without using any water), boiled carrots, and boiled daikon radish.
