Masaaki-sama’s Sacred Word When I take a bite, it’s crispy-juicy, and maybe it’s because of the combination of rice flour and kuzu starch [Japanese arrowroot], but the texture makes me think, wait, is this meat? and paired with the savory aroma of roasted lotus root, the satisfaction is immense, and not only that, what I really want to recommend is the extra nori flakes topping, a seaweed with an exceptional and unique flavor, and oh, the robust strength of lotus root holds its own against the nori! so truly a dish where you can enjoy the harmony between sea and earth (…or mud?), and on top of that, by sauteing it in sesame seed oil, it goes perfectly with rice, so my chopsticks won’t stop shoveling rice, and still more, ground sesame seeds are stealthily put in the batter, giving it plenty of umami—the recipe, everyone, that made me feel the need to write all of this at once without a period is the exquisite recipe I’d love for all of you to try! ********** Lotus root fried to a beautiful golden-brown, topped with a generous sprinkle of vibrant green nori flakes! The savory aroma seems to burst right out of the screen, stirring my appetite—I want to eat it right now! Masaaki-sama’s Sacred Word, written in rapid-fire succession! “Crispy-juicy.” “My chopsticks won’t stop shoveling rice.” “Ground sesame seeds are stealthily put in the batter, giving it plenty of umami.” Our hearts leap with joy at Masaaki-sama’s frank and lively expressions! Masaaki-sama’s deep love for seaweed, which he eats without fail every day. Mami-okusama constantly brings it into form. This outstanding dish superbly harmonizes the smell of the sea in the nori flakes and the robust strength of lotus root that was grown in mud—what Masaaki-sama calls “the harmony between sea and earth (…or mud?)”! According to Mami-okusama, the crisp, crunchy texture of the lotus root was so irresistible, the whole family was absolutely delighted.
