“I want to serve in the divine work of making known to the world Masaaki-sama, who carries the truth of God, with everything I have—no matter what becomes of me.” —Mami-okusama’s message Mami-okusama, who serves as Aide to the Representative of Kyoshu, always stands at the forefront, setting an example of spreading the gospel for all of us. Recently, I had the opportunity to catch a glimpse of one aspect of her efforts in spreading the gospel, and I could not help but feel that Mami-okusama does this work each and every day with her whole heart and soul. With the wish to share this with members around the world, we received special permission from Mami-okusama to present this, along with photographs she kindly provided. Feeling that the Church publication Glory (including its supplementary issues) is simply too outstanding in its content and design not to use for spreading the gospel, Mami-okusama has come up with various ways to do so. When she distributes copies to people, she attaches sticky notes with the thought, “Oh, I truly want this person to come in contact with Masaaki-sama’s Sacred Word! I really hope they will read this part!” Still more, not only does she attach sticky notes, she also carefully writes a personal message on each one of them with the recipient in mind. Sometimes she also includes a handwritten letter. Mami-okusama distributes copies not only to friends and neighbors, but also to the teachers of her children’s extracurricular activities and even to tradespeople and the like who visit their home. There are many people to whom she distributes copies on a regular basis. One neighbor gave high praise to Glory, saying, “Among publications within the religious world, you are the only ones producing such a wonderful publication!” After becoming more conscious of the vegan diet, this person’s health improved and a renewed zest for life arose within him, leading him to invite friends to his home one after another and have them try vegan meals and to pass along copies of Glory. She shared this remarkable story. This same person has also attended services and Church events such as Worship Day, and has said of Masaaki-sama, “I have never come across anyone as remarkable as him.” Another person, in response to Mami-okusama’s practice of preparing elaborately decorated vegan bento boxes every day for her three children, said, “I am in awe. Having raised three children myself, I know how hard it is to make bentos. It’s no ordinary feat to create such delightful decorated bentos without using any additives or frozen foods, and without using any animal products whatsoever.” This person has also begun following us on Instagram. We heard that many others have tried making the recipes by Mami-okusama themselves and have been moved by how delicious they are. Her missionary work in spreading the gospel is not limited to distributing Glory. With her warm, radiant smile, she hands leaflets and mini song cards to those in her life and to passersby, makes phone calls or sometimes makes visits bringing with her rice balls made with rice cooked in a clay pot along with side dishes, or simple snacks (made without any added sugars, of course) to those who happen to cross her mind. Her spreading the gospel knows no bounds. Regarding the foundation of all this missionary work, Mami-okusama said that when we keep Masaaki-sama at the center, as the focal point, something will definitely happen. She spoke to me with great resolve, expressing that Masaaki-sama is the source of everything, that her heartfelt wish is to be used in whatever form as God’s hands and feet, and that she will attribute everything to Masaaki-sama. Hearing the bold conviction in Mami-okusama’s words—who serves closest to Masaaki-sama—affirming that when Masaaki-sama is placed at the center, something will definitely happen, and that anyone who comes into contact with Masaaki-sama will certainly be saved, I felt the flame of spreading the gospel catching fire and blazing up from deep within me. Raising three children every day while supporting Masaaki-sama’s divine work, dedicating herself to various other duties as she spreads the gospel—this is simply beyond what any ordinary person could imagine. The source of Mami-okusama’s overwhelming energy must surely lie in her devotion to Masaaki-sama that is strongest out of anyone and in the inexhaustible divine power that emanates from Masaaki-sama himself. Mami-okusama is truly the model of faith in Masaaki-sama. Let us, even in a small way, follow Mami-okusama’s example and together do all that we can do to bring Masaaki-sama into the world, Masaaki-sama who has rescued us from delusion and the depths of darkness. Let us convey to all of humanity the truth of Masaaki-sama, the linchpin to the salvation of humanity. Believing that anyone who comes in contact with Masaaki-sama will be saved, let us, as one, all churches and all members, embrace the “Mami-okusama method”—attaching sticky notes filled with heartfelt messages to the pages of Glory, at times including a handwritten letter, and even delivering clay-pot rice—and press forward together!
