Before partaking of the meal, Masaaki-sama led everyone in prayer. During the missionary visit, Masaaki-sama asked President Cabuço, “In Japan we say ‘itadakimasu,’ but in Angola, do you say any words before eating?” President Cabuço taught Masaaki-sama a prayer that his children recite before meals at Angolan schools. (See the article “Masaaki-sama and Mami-okusama are our father and mother.”) Based on this, Masaaki-sama composed a completely original prayer in Portuguese for this day. We humbly present the full text, as Masaaki-sama graciously provided us with the Japanese translation: Father in Heaven,Thank You for this day and for this meal.Through us,Bless all creation and all humanity.Through us,Share this blessing with those who have no food.In the name of Messiah, which is one with Meishu-sama and Jesus Christ,We surrender everything to You, Lord.Amen! What a beautiful sight it was—all the African staff members offering Masaaki-sama’s prayer with hearts as one was like a scene from scripture, when Jesus took bread and cup at the Passover meal, offered a prayer of thanksgiving, and shared them with his disciples. Enveloping the venue in great light, Masaaki-sama’s presence, filled with love for this great family, was the very embodiment of Jesus, the very embodiment of Meishu-sama. At the end of the luncheon, President Cabuço presented gifts to both Masaaki-sama and Mami-okusama, respectively. During the Monthly Service and African Membership Conference on the previous day, Masaaki-sama and Mami-okusama had worn clothing and scarves made from fabric presented by African members several years ago. The gifts that were presented to them on this day were also traditional Angolan patterned fabrics. Mami-okusama exclaimed, “This is exactly what we wanted!” and the two were filled with joy. When Mami-okusama mentioned that she would have new clothing tailored from the fabric presented on this day for their visit to Angola next year, cheers erupted from everyone present—they could hardly wait for next year. Afterwards, Masaaki-sama and Mami-okusama presented President Cabuço’s wife with a scarf matching the one Mami-okusama had worn at the previous day’s service, and gave pocket squares made from the same fabric as Masaaki-sama’s clothing to Senior Advisors Tutatuta and Batista, and President Albert from the Church in Democratic Republic of Congo. The faces of all who received the gifts were full of smiles, and tremendous cheers and applause erupted from the venue. The bond connecting everyone with Masaaki-sama and Mami-okusama is solid and enduring. I could not help but feel that this scene symbolized that we are the Messiah family under Masaaki-sama. After the luncheon ended, Masaaki-sama and Mami-okusama immediately had measurements taken to have clothing tailored from the fabric gifted to them. We can hardly wait to see what kind of clothing will be made from the fabric and how it will be revealed before the African members next year.
