It is as if the warm spring sunshine has arrived early, just right here! This flower bento that we received from Mami-okusama was made on the first day of the third semester of school for Mei-sama, the eldest daughter of Masaaki-sama and Mami-okusama. It was the start of a new semester, and the first day of school in a while for Mei-sama since there was a winter break. On this slightly nerve-wracking day, imagine opening your bento box at lunchtime and finding such adorable flowers blooming inside! Mei-sama apparently was extremely happy, exclaiming, “Wow, flowers! So beautiful!” We can almost hear her adorable excited voice right now! The large blooming flowers were made with nori seaweed and rice. According to Mami-okusama, the ingredient placed at the center, catching our eyes, is pickled red ginger. The small flowers placed around them were made with boiled carrots and daikon radish. Every time I see Mami-okusama’s bento boxes, I am reminded of the infinite possibilities of what you can “draw” using the ingredients. And what’s more, the star of this splendid flower bento is, once again, the 30 percent polished rice cooked in a clay pot. For Mei-sama, who is a growing child, this deeply flavorful rice is the most important source of energy! Supporting the rice on the side are the hijiki daikon mochi, which we made a post about the other day, and komatsuna (Japanese mustard spinach) and wakame seaweed with sesame dressing. Through her bento, Mami-okusama showed her support for Mei-sama, putting a smile on her face on this day of a new beginning. Thank you so much for allowing us to feel the warmth of your love. 【Bento Menu】*30 percent polished rice cooked in a clay pot (200g)Shaped into beautiful flowers with pickled red ginger added in the center for a touch of color and flavor.*Hijiki daikon mochi*Komatsuna and wakame seaweed with sesame dressing*Flower decorationsBoiled carrots and daikon radish were used to represent delicate flower petals.
