On the evening of August 19, Masaaki-sama and Mami-okusama completed their entire schedule and made their way to Luanda International Airport. President Cabuço as well as many full-time staff and members gathered to see them off. Masaaki-sama and Mami-okusama exchanged final handshakes and hugs with each of the Angolan executive directors and regional directors. Members lined up along the road in front of the airport, singing and dancing as they bid farewell to the two. In their voices were heartfelt gratitude along with the sadness of parting. And yet, everyone’s expressions overflowed with unwavering determination and enthusiasm. The sight of Masaaki-sama and Mami-okusama traveling from Japan to distant Angola and demonstrating their heartfelt love for Angola and Africa throughout the missionary visit was deeply etched in the hearts of all members. In order to respond to Masaaki-sama and Mami-okusama’s love, everyone must have renewed their determination to look to Masaaki-sama with unwavering devotion and fulfill the mission entrusted to them. Masaaki-sama and Mami-okusama departed for Japan on an evening flight, and Mami-okusama later shared with us a story that happened during the flight. Among the cabin crew was a Westerner who could speak Japanese. When Mami-okusama asked, “Did you live somewhere in Japan?” it turned out that this person had studied abroad at the University of Tsukuba—the same university Mami-okusama attended—during the time she was a student there. This sparked a conversation, and Mami-okusama shared information about World Church of Messiah through a leaflet. That these two people, who might have passed by each other somewhere during their university days, met again on an airplane after more than ten years, and that this person encountered World Church of Messiah under Masaaki-sama’s leadership, was nothing short of a miraculous meeting. Additionally, according to an episode shared by an accompanying secretary, Mami-okusama met a person from Libya in the powder room during their journey to Angola. When this person said, “You are very beautiful. May I take a picture?” it became an opportunity to spread the gospel, and Mami-okusama handed to her a leaflet as well as a mini song card with a link to one of World Church of Messiah’s songs. We can only admire Mami-okusama, who naturally spreads the gospel through her remarkable beauty and grace. We could never match the passion that Masaaki-sama and Mami-okusama pour into missionary work. However, we cannot help but wish to follow, even if only a little, the way Masaaki-sama and Mami-okusama spread the gospel, the two who are the father and mother of us all in the Messiah family. Having witnessed a glimpse of their passion for missionary work, what fills my heart is the phrase “spread the gospel.” I strongly believe that now is the time for all members under Masaaki-sama to unite and create waves of salvation around the world.
