Everything looked perfect on Mami-okusama, giving her the appearance of a princess from a faraway land. What surprised this reporter was when Masaaki-sama noticed a male store owner wearing a cross necklace and asked, “Are you a Christian?” When the owner replied, “Yes, though I'm not particularly devout,” Masaaki-sama immediately responded, “Please visit our church. We are a Christian organization that originated in Japan.” Masaaki-sama continued, “He (pointing toward President Cabuço) gives talks, there's music, and you’re definitely going to like it,” and handed him a leaflet. I caught a glimpse of just how extraordinary Masaaki-sama is—he instantly noticed the cross necklace and took it as an opportunity to start a conversation. Then, when Masaaki-sama handed a leaflet to another female store employee, she said, “I already know about your Church.” From the fact that he could so easily encounter someone who knew about the World Church of Messiah right in the city, Masaaki-sama could see what a large organization World Church of Messiah is within Angola. Furthermore, according to Mami-okusama, Masaaki-sama has always been an excellent listener. Masaaki-sama speaks with drivers and spreads the gospel when he takes taxis or other modes of transportation, and during this missionary visit as well, before departing from Japan, when he took a taxi to the airport, he struck up a conversation as usual. From the driver’s comment that “I’ve never been abroad,” Masaaki-sama asked questions like “If you could go somewhere, where would you want to visit?” and quickly became friends with him. Then he said, “We’re going to Angola now. We are a Japanese religion with the most African members,” and handed over a leaflet. And as he was giving the driver a mini card with a link to The Great Journey, the video on Masaaki-sama’s missionary visit to Angola last year, Masaaki-sama explained, “This shows when I went to Angola last year.” He even handed over a mini song card for “Wings of Love,” saying, “Please listen to this love song I wrote the lyrics for.” This is a precious anecdote that shows us how Masaaki-sama does missionary work, as a good listener and in a natural way. Truly, Masaaki-sama is our example for doing missionary work. Though I cannot even come close to matching him, it was a scene that made me strongly feel that I must strive to be even one step closer to his example.
